A number of
elements within the documentary had to be edited, deleted or re-recorded after
our first lot of feedback. We also had an issue with a pixelated scene, this
may have been due to the over editing or just poor quality footage. The way we
overcome this issue was to gather more footage to allow us to build a story
around our footage. We wanted to display a ‘day in farm life’, we were able to achieve
this by chronologically ordering our footage, stating with the sun coming up,
ending with the sun setting. This meant that scenes and clips were shuffled
around to give the correct final look.
Once this
issue was solved we then decided to look at the final piece as a whole, we
wanted to tell a story, however the eyes and brain work in a way which we would
have to edit our documentary to be visually pleasing. This meant the lighting
of all footage shot throughout the day would have to work together and flow
almost seamlessly. This then helped out with the continuity of the overall piece
making it easier for the audiences to enjoy. To add to the viewing experience,
we also had to think about the use of transitions to piece the footage
together. We found that the eyes don’t ‘do’ transitions very well, things like dissolve
and cross cutting will make the final piece look unprofessional as well as disconnected.
We chose to edit the transitions as well as the zooming effects out of the
documentary so that all the scenes looked like they were logically placed and
professionally put together.
Following with
the professionalism, we also wanted to introduce the characters to give it a
more believable documentary vibe. These need to be strategically placed to
ensure that they are clear and easily understood for the audiences as well as
it adding to the overall quality of the documentary piece. This is one of the
final edits we needed to make to our documentary as the content is of high
quality, the use of sign posts would add another element to the documentary
without it being too much. After all these slight tweaks have been made it will
result in a professional looking documentary which should clearly tell a story
from start to finish.
